An Evening with the Legendary Melba Moore
Join the Music Department for a very special evening featuring the multi talented Melba Moore. A TONY award winning, GRAMMY nominated R & B recording artist, Ms. Moore has had a prolific career in many facets of the entertainment industry including Broadway, television and film. We will be treated to a few of her favorite songs as well as stories from her fascinating career and a Q and A session.
Born into a musical family, Ms. Moore is a graduate of the famed ARTS HIGH SCHOOL, in Newark NJ and is an alum of MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY. Her career includes 8 top 10 R&B hits including two #1 smash hits and 3 Grammy nominations. She was in the original Broadway production of Hair, where she replaced Diane Keaton giving her the distinction of being the first black actress to replace a white actress in a Broadway show. Soon after HAIR, she won the TONY for her role as Lutiebelle in Purlie. She has gone on to be awarded numerous honors throughout the years. In August of 2023 she was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2016 her recording of LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING was recognized by THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS and entered into their National Recording Registry.
